Please look at whether two-time Olympian Nick Symmonds is faster than his four-wheel competition.

Nick Symmonds, a former Olympic runner, has been dashing against his supporters and followers on his popular YouTube channel for years, promising cash rewards if they can defeat him (or goodies in the case of his dog). On the other hand, those challenges were previously limited to those on foot—and, yes, scooterists.

In his most recent video, Symmonds placed himself in a significantly more disadvantaged position, allowing his opponent the benefit of four wheels. “The greatest thing about driving a go-kart is racing one,” Symmonds remarks, “and the best part of it all is that I’m doing it during my lunch break.”

Symmonds, the founder and CEO of Run Gum challenged a colleague at Camp Harlow in Eugene, Oregon, to a 135-meter race during the occasion. Maci Lapray (sister of famous YouTuber AJ Lapray) works for his firm and is also a member of Team Symmonds.

Symmonds begins by stating that the course isn’t “bent,” which means you’ll have to strain your body hard to turn around these bends. The first six minutes of racing are packed with action. Symmonds is nearly halfway through the race at 11 seconds and concludes with a 21-second lap. While Symmonds is still on the line, his partner speeds ahead, and the go-kart’s top-end speed rapidly begins to close the gap.

In the end, it’s not sufficient—the go-kart can only complete a 23-second lap, two seconds short of Symmonds’ time, barely allowing the Olympian to take the victory. After some thought, Symmonds and Lapray choose to go for it one more time, this time with four laps rather than just one. Check out the video above to see if Symmonds’ legs are still strong enough to pull off a surprise victory in the go-kart one more time.
